Palm Sunday

Ancient Israel was called the land that flowed with milk and honey.  The Israelites left Egypt looking for this land and as a result the first Passover celebration was born. From the Sea of Galilee to the Dead Sea, forests of date palms grew and were cultivated, bringing fame to Jericho for the abundant lush growth of the date palms.  Judean dates were famous for their curative properties and it was believed they promoted longevity as well as cured diseases and infection. Ancient coins were inscribed with the date palm as well.

 Recent Israeli scientists were able to germinate 2000 year old seeds, and bring the date palm back to life. The reborn plant is now about 12 inches tall and scientists hope to study the DNA of the plant and learn more about this ancient delicacy.

It is very likely that this Judean Date Palm is the variety of palm branch that was used on Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem the week before the Passover and his crucifixion.  The people of Jerusalem welcomed the Lord into the city as he rode in on a colt in direct response to the prophecy in the Old Testament. Take time to remember the events of this Holy Season as we lead up to the final days before the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. This is the signal event of our doctrine and the holiest season of the year. Think Jesus!

  Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; He is just and endowed with salvation, Humble, and mounted on a donkey, Even on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

Most Viewed Search on Bible Gateway-1 Corinthians 13

Bible Gateway is a scripture search site where you can find any verse you are looking for. It is a favorite site I use often. The most searched verses in 2009 are interesting but the number 1 search was:

1 Corinthians 13

The Greatest Gift
 1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned,[a] but have not love, it profits me nothing.
4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.
11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.
13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Becoming Spiritual

Religion is for people who are afraid to go to hell. Spirituality is for people who have already been there.

Running Hawk,
of The Lakota Nation

Many people in the world believe that all Christians serve God out of fear of Hell.  While that may be true for some people, it is not true for everyone. The above quote is true in that people who have suffered deeply many times turn to God for solace they find nowhere else. This type of spirituality has nothing to do with the fear of hell.

No one wants to go to hell but it is possible to have a relationship with God that is not based on the fear of punishment. When you rise above the fear of punishment in your walk with God you have taken a step toward knowing God in spirit and truth! That is the first step on your journey to understanding.

When you rise from the ashes of life's failure to start over in the presence of the Almighty, you will find comfort, joy, and love, as well as enlightenment!

Just a little point to ponder! Blessings!

We Will Remember the Name of the Lord

 Bishop Bourne and Brother Billy Edwards at a special service in the fall of 2009

We just finished a week of prayer and sacrifice that ended 21 days of prayer and fasting. God hears us and answers our prayers. This chapter just speaks to my heart tonight after the wonderful interlude with the Bishops Bourne and Neyland!

Psalm 20

 1The LORD hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee;
 2Send thee help from the sanctuary, and strengthen thee out of Zion;
 3Remember all thy offerings, and accept thy burnt sacrifice; Selah.
 4Grant thee according to thine own heart, and fulfil all thy counsel.
 5We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners: the LORD fulfil all thy petitions.
 6Now know I that the LORD saveth his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand.
 7Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.
 8They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright.
 9Save, LORD: let the king hear us when we call.

Marvelous promises. I feel like singing!

When I think about the Lord...and what He's done for me...........
It makes me wa..nt to shout Hallelujah!, Lord, you're worthy, of all the honor, all the glory, all.....the....prai.....se!  It make me want to shout, Hallelujah!, Lord, You're worthy, of all the honor, all the glory, all....the....prai.....se!
